Another Visit from the Big Chop!!!
I did it once again in August! Why you ask? I returned to the creamy crack! Yes, ME! It's true. I am ashamed, but not completely. I had dreadlocks in my hair a few years ago, but instead of cutting them off I combed them out. I felt as though my hair was somehow damaged from combing out my locs. It could have all been in my head, but I went ahead and put my hair through some changes.
In April, I decided to put a texturizer in my hair. My plan was not to completely straighten my hair, but to loosen my curls slightly. I watched a few videos on youtube since I could not remember exactly to apply and process the chemical on my hair. Unfortunately, I overprocessed my hair. I combed the texturizer through my hair and smoothed it onto my hair, which is the reason it straightened my hair. It was damaged because I should not have combed the texturizer through completely. Well, chemicals are chemicals, so at the end of the day neither a texturizer or relaxer are not healthy for our hair(which I definitely knew). I straightened my hair with heat, but my end were so split that I could not wear my hair down. Even trying to wear it wet and wavy was not working, due to its stringy appearance. I wore my hair in a ponytail for a month.
After a month of wearing it in a ponytail, I decided to go to the hair salon to seek help. I got a touchup on my texturizer, got a haircut, and straightened with heat. It was gorgeous!!! It was silky, shiny, and great! My problem with the straightened hair was sweating out the hairstyle, and having to do so much work to keep it looking good. It seemed like I was always washing, deep conditioning, and flat ironing to keep up the style. It was just like a perm/relaxer but it's not as harsh. You can achieve the same results as a relaxer with the texturizer.
Once again, I added more chemicals!! In July, I wanted to go for a shorter style, so I got a relaxer. I got the "Halle Berry" style, so I knew my kitchen had to be in order! I love this style, but too much maitenance. My plans when I did the first texturizer was to experiment with hairstyles I have been wanting to rock and then start over with a new big chop. I even wore a sew-in weave as well for a month to prevent from straightening my hair so much.
Finally, in August I got my big chop! I was ready to leave those chemicals alone again, plus I wanted to exercise without worrying about styling my hair. I dyed my hair black cherry with my new big chop. I let it grow out for a month, and then got another big chop. I got another chop, because I had a lot of straight pieces of hair left. I was back to the original length of the big chop in August. At this point I dyed my hair Auburn, which turned out pretty well. I have been growing my hair since September, so let's keep the journey going!
